Symbolic Importance

As I look back, the Irish Presidential election was about the future, prioritising what we the Irish people saw as what should be fixed, what should be at the forefront of the President’s agenda.  Michael D for who represented human rights, social justice, equality and many more social related issues. Sean Gallagher for me was a pin-up boy for everything that Fianna Fail stood for, for the past decade, it was business and not the people.

We are now as close to the cliff’s edge as we were at the beginning of the financial crises. We needed drastic change, a symbol of change and a hope for the future, even if that hope is only influence as it would be from the position of president.

It was vital that we the Irish people chose the hope, the symbol, the people’s president.

Let us just hope that his influence if any is for the people and the people are priority.

I am a young Artist, currently a first year in NCAD. I use this space to empty my thoughts out rather than holding onto them. I believe art has more of a purpose than just to sit on a pedestal.
